Which trade shows should I visit when sourcing from China?

Choose the event for the product category and supplier conversations you need, rather than its size alone.

The short answer

The most useful trade show depends on what you are sourcing and the stage of your project. A broad event can help explore categories; a specialist exhibition can be better for technical products or a defined manufacturing process. There is no single event that is right for every brief.

Three starting points to consider

Canton Fair

A broad sourcing event covering many manufacturing and product categories.

  • Check which phase and exhibition sections match your products
  • Review current exhibitor and product information before attending

Hong Kong and Shanghai events

These include fairs focused on particular industries and product groups.

  • Hong Kong has electronics, gifts and other category-specific fairs
  • Shanghai hosts specialist exhibitions suited to different industries

Match the event to the requirement

Identify your product category, essential specifications and the type of supplier you want to meet. Consider whether you need finished products, components, packaging, machinery or technical manufacturing discussions. These can lead to different events.

Check the current exhibitor profile and product coverage on the organiser’s website. A familiar event name is not enough to confirm that the right suppliers will be present at a particular edition.

Plan for work beyond the exhibition floor

Shortlist relevant exhibitors and prepare questions before travelling. Leave enough room for quotation review, sample discussions and factory visits where useful. Suppliers may manufacture in a different city from the exhibition.

Avoid building a schedule around an old calendar. Confirm dates, location, visitor arrangements and the current category coverage directly with the organiser. This article is a selection framework, not a full-year trade show calendar.

How TL supports this

TL can help connect your sourcing brief with relevant supplier research and meeting priorities. Our Shanghai team can support discussions and follow-up around the agreed visit scope. We do not claim to be an official representative or partner of the exhibitions mentioned.
